Dr Ian Thompson graduated Medical School at the University of Queensland in 1976. He has spent most of his career since 1979 in General Practice in Goondiwindi, South West of Brisbane in rural Queensland. Following training in skin cancer medicine, Ian has been in full time skin practice since 2006 both in Goondiwindi and in Toowoomba.
Ian always had a special interest in skin cancer surgery through his General Practice career. 5 years ago Ian did the 5 day skin cancer workshop followed by the 2 day advanced workshop presented by Dr Anthony Dixon. These are the same workshops that have now been adapted to meet curriculum for the College Diploma level of certification.
Since those workshops skin cancer medicine has been his main interest. His studies in skin cancer have continued intensely since that time. Ian teaches skin cancer medicine to medical students, GP registrars and other training doctors in his rural practice.
Ian has attained Fellowship of the College and now hopes to have a greater role in ACSCM teaching programs.
